Regional Softball Roundup: Sixth-ranked West Des Moines Valley Stops City High in Regional Final

Sixth-ranked West Des Moines Valley overcame an early one-run deficit to defeat City High 13-1 on Tuesday in the Class 5A, Region 5 title game in West Des Moines.
City High closes the season 19-21 while West Des Moines Valley (26-13) advances to the 5A state tournament for the ninth time in 10 seasons after falling in the regional final a year ago.
West Des Moines Valley will face Southeast Polk (25-12) in a Class 5A quarterfinal on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
City High took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Tuesday when Lianna Hull led off the game with a single and scored on an RBI single by senior Makayla Ribble.
The Tigers answered quickly with seven runs in the second and six more in the third.
Valley had nine hits off City High starter Kylie Cronk who took the loss.
Hull went 2-for-2 with a run scored for City High while Ribble had an RBI and Georgia Kimm a double for the Little Hawks.
