Regional Softball Roundup: Liberty High Falls to Third-ranked Muscatine in Region 8 Title Game

For the third time in the past four seasons Liberty High ended a strong season one win shy of a spot at the state tournament.
Class 5A No. 14 Liberty High fell to third-ranked Muscatine 9-1 on Tuesday in the Region 8 title game at Kent Stein Park in Muscatine.
Liberty High closed the season 28-14 while Muscatine (35-4) returned to the state tournament for the second time in three seasons and will face Pleasant Valley (26-12) in the 5A quarterfinals on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
Kinsley Robertson took the loss for Liberty High allowing nine runs, six earned, on 11 hits while striking out one and walking two.
Kennedy Daugherty had a solo home run to lead Liberty High while Mischa Reiners added a hit for the Lightning.
Maura Chalupa earned the win for Muscatine in the circle allowing just one run on two hits while striking out eight and walking two in 6 2/3 innings.
