Substate Baseball Roundup: Liberty High Rolls Past Eighth-ranked Cedar Falls in Substate 5 Semifinal

Liberty High continued its postseason surge on Monday with a 14-1 win over eighth-ranked Cedar Falls in a Class 4A, Substate 5 semifinal at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex in Cedar Falls.
The Lightning scored at least three runs in each of the first four innings while improving to 20-19 on the season and will face ninth-ranked Pleasant Valley (24-11) on Wednesday in the Substate 5 title game at 7 p.m. in Bettendorf.
Cedar Falls closed the season 26-13.
Hayden Vickroy earned the win for Liberty High allowing one run on four hits while striking out six in 4 1/3 innings.
Jackson Tubbs recorded the final two outs in relief.
Seven different Liberty High players had a hit in the win led by Luke Meyers and Ian Gates who each went 2-for-2.
Meyers had a triple, scored three runs and drove in a run and Gates had an RBI and scored four times to lead Liberty High.
Vickroy and Evan Chandler each had a hit and drove in two runs, Owen Norris had a double and drove in three runs and Jack Funke had two hits and an RBI.
Luke Ramsey had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run and Mason Gardner had an RBI and scored a run.
