Baseball Roundup: Liberty High Sweeps Cedar Rapids Jefferson in MVC Doubleheader

Liberty High swept Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional doubleheader on Monday in Cedar Rapids winning the opener 6-1 and taking the nightcap 10-2.
The Lightning improved to 16-16 on the season and 10-16 in MVC play with the sweep while Cedar Rapids Jefferson dropped to 10-21 on the year and 7-19 in conference play.
Hayden Vickroy earned the win in game one tossing a complete game five-hitter while striking out seven.
Vickroy allowed just one run on the five hits and didn’t walk a batter and also went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs.
Mason Gardner was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI while Jack Funke was 2-for-3 and scored a run for Liberty High.
Evan Chandler scored twice, Luke Meyers had a hit and scored a run and Boyd Skelley added a hit and Colton White had an RBI for the Lightning.
In the nightcap 11 different Liberty High players had a hit as the Lightning hammered 13 hits as a team.
Funke and Gardner each homered for Liberty High in game two while Vickroy went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Chandler had a hit and scored two runs while Luke Ramsey joined Vickroy with a pair of hits.
Luke Mayer had a hit and drove in a run, Noah Kirk had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run and Tyler Moores had a hit and scored a run.
Jackson Khamphilanouvong earned the win in game two allowing one run on six hits while striking out four in four innings.
Jackson Tubbs and Jacob Turgasen each worked a scoreless inning of relief for the Lightning.
