Softball Roundup: Liberty High Goes 1-1 Against Ranked Opponents at Oskaloosa Tournament

Class 5A No. 10 Liberty High split a pair of games against ranked opponents at the Oskaloosa tournament on Saturday defeating Class 4A No. 4 Carlisle 4-2 and falling to 3A No. 13 Albia 9-0.
Liberty High moved to 21-5 on the season with the 1-1 performance on Saturday.
Haileigh Smith hit a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Liberty High to a 4-2 win over Carlisle (14-5) in the first game on Saturday.
Haley Schroeder went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for Liberty High while Ella McLaughlin and Mischa Reiners each scored a run.
Kinsley Robertson earned the win for Liberty High allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out five and walking one.
Liberty High had six hits in the loss to Albia (15-4) but couldn’t push across a run.
Robertson went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Liberty High while Ella Wetjen, Reiners, Smith and Kennedy Daugherty all had hits for the Lightning.
Daugherty took the loss allowing nine runs, six earned, on seven hits while striking out seven and walking three.
