City High continued its torrid start to the season on Tuesday pushing its winning streak to nine with a sweep of Cedar Rapids Kennedy in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional doubleheader in Cedar Rapids.

Class 4A third-ranked City High rallied for a 5-3 win in the opener and completed the sweep with an 11-3 win in game two to improve to 11-2 on the season while Cedar Rapids Kennedy dropped to 3-8.

City High scored the final four runs in the opener to erase an early 3-1 deficit taking the lead for good on a two-run home run by Gavin Koch in the top of the fifth.

Drew Carlson tossed two scoreless innings in relief of starter Cade Obermueller to earn the win while Gable Mitchell worked a perfect seventh to secure the save.

Obermueller fanned 10 in four innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on just one hit while walking four.

Koch and Gable Mitchell each had 11 hits in the opener as City High outhit the Cougars 11-2.

Mitchell tripled twice and scored two runs while Carter Seaton went 2-for-3 with a double and a runs cored and Obermueller was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

John Klosterman had a hit and scored a run and Alex Knudtson drove in a run in game one.

The nightcap was all City High as the Little Hawks scored the first five runs and rolled to an 11-3 win.

Knudtson went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored to lead City High in game two while Obermueller doubled twice, drove in a run and scored a run.

Koch had a hit, scored twice and drove in a run and Carlson had a double and drove in a run.

Klosterman had a double, scored twice and drove in a run and Joey Bouska had a hit, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Koch earned the win in game two allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four in six innings.
