Solon sits in eighth place after the opening day of the Class 3A state golf meet at River Valley Golf Course in Adel.

Making its first state tournament appearance since 1998, Solon shot a 422 on Thursday and trails Humboldt by 13 strokes for seventh place.

Gilbert shot an opening-round 348 and leads the team race by 12 strokes over Clear Lake after 18 holes.

Dubuque Wahlert is third with a 376 followed by Lisbon with a with a 388 and West Delaware with a 396.

Taylor Dee led Solon shooting an opening-round 98 while Camryn Keith and Lilly Houtakker each shot 105 on Thursday.

Peyton Pentico added a 114 for the Spartans while Rylie Grezel shot a 118 and Izzy Messenger a 123.

Eden Lohrbach of Gilbert and Rylee Heryford of Newton are tied atop the individual standings after one day, each shooting an opening-round 75.
