Second-ranked Johnston defeated No. 11 City High 1-0 in the Class 3A, Substate 3 title game on Wednesday in Johnston.

Carlos Martinez scored the only goal of the match for the Dragons as Johnston advanced to the 3A state tournament for the second consecutive season.

Johnston improved to 18-1 on the season with its ninth consecutive win while City High had a five-match winning streak snapped and closes the season 11-6.

Second-seeded Johnston will face Cedar Rapids Prairie (16-3) in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A state tournament on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
