West Branch Earns State Tournament Trip With Runner-up Regional Finish

The West Branch boys golf team locked up a return trip to the state tournament with a district title on Monday.
On Wednesday it was the West Branch girls team’s turn to secure a spot at state.
West Branch finished runner-up at the Class 1A, Region 4 meet at Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club in Wapello on Wednesday to earn a spot at the Class 1A state tournament.
The Bears shot a 402 on Wednesday to finish three strokes in front of 2021 state qualifier Durant for the runner-up spot.
New London, which placed fourth at the 1A state meet last season, won the Region 4 team title with a 351.
Claire Jarrett fired an 86 to earn runner-up medalist honors on Wednesday finishing one stroke clear of Sophia Malott of New London.
Taylor Phillips of New London won the individual title with a 72.
West Branch will compete at the Class 1A state tournament on May 25-27 at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
