Baseball Roundup: City High Splits With Seventh-ranked Dubuque Hempstead in Top-10 Doubleheader

Class 3A third-ranked City High rallied for a doubleheader split with Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday to cap a tough opening two-day test of the season for the Little Hawks.
Seventh-ranked Dubuque Hempstead won the opener 7-5 before City High claimed the nightcap 4-3 in a second top-10 doubleheader in two days for the Little Hawks.
City High opened the season with a sweep of fifth-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie and moved to 3-1 on the season with the split on Tuesday while Dubuque Hempstead dropped to 2-2.
City High outhit the Mustangs 11-8 in the opener but the Mustangs built a 3-1 lead after three innings and never let the Little Hawks pull even.
Alex Knudtson went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead City High while Gable Mitchell had two hits and scored a run and Joey Bouska had two hits and an RBI in the opener.
Carter Seaton, John Klosterman and Jacob Williamson all had a hit and scored a run and Ben Kueter had a hit and drove in a run.
City High got five strong innings from Knudtson in the nightcap and Jay Kennedy struck out five in two innings of hitless relief to earn the win.
Knudtson allowed three runs on four hits while striking out five and walking two and also had two hits and drove in two runs.
Bouska had two hits and scored a run while Cade Obermueller had a hit and scored two runs and Gable Mitchell, Williams and DJ Hodges all added hits.
Gavin Koch drove in a run for the Little Hawks.
