Just a few weeks before his graduation one of the most successful wrestlers in Solon history announced his decision for the future.
Solon senior standout Gage Marty announced his commitment to join the University of Iowa wrestling program with a post on social media on Monday.
“I’m super excited to announce that I’ve committed to the University of Iowa,” Marty wrote on Twitter. “I can’t thank my family and coaches enough. Can’t wait to get started.”
Marty posted a 125-25 career record in his final three prep seasons while earning state medals at three different weight classes.
As a sophomore Marty went 42-11 and finished seventh at the Class 2A state meet at 195 pounds.
A year later he posted a 35-11 record and finished sixth at 220 pounds before making the move to heavyweight last season.
Marty had his best prep season as a senior when he went 48-3 and finished runner-up at the state tournament at 285-pounds.
Also a two-time all-state lineman on the Solon football team Marty ranked sixth on the team with 31 tackles last fall including 11 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
