Solon Cruises to District Title; Returns to Class 3A State Meet

A year after finishing runner-up at the Class 3A state golf meet Solon will have a shot at claiming the top spot.
The Spartans made sure of that on Monday.
Solon had four golfers finishing in the top seven and rolled to the team title at the Class 3A district meet at Wildcat Golf Course in Shellsburg.
With the district title on Monday Solon returns to the Class 3A state tournament set for May 23 and 24th at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
Solon fired a 315 on Monday to easily outdistance runner-up Washington which closed with a 347.
Marion was third with a 349 followed by West Delaware with a 352 and Vinton-Shellsburg with a 368.
Freshman Isaiah Zoske earned individual medalist honors on Monday firing a 75 to match Nathan of Whalen of Marion for the top score.
Zoske won a playoff over Whalen by one stroke to win the district title.
Franke Haege Jr. was third overall with a 77 for the Spartans while Jack McCarty was sixth with an 81 and Mac McCarty was seventh with an 82.
Brennan Heesch finished ninth with an 85 for Solon.
