Defending 2A State Champion West Branch Headed Back to State Golf Tournament

The defending 2A state champion will be back to defend its title next week.
Last year’s 2A state champion West Branch secured a return trip to the state tournament by claiming a 2A district title on Monday at Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club.
Dylan Countryman finished as the individual runner-up to lead four Bears that shot 85 or better on Monday as West Branch edged Dyersville Beckman by a single stroke for the team title.
With the district title West Branch will go for a second consecutive 2A crown next week at the state tournament set for May 23 and 24 at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames.
West Branch finished with a 325, one stroke better than the Blazers, while New Hampton was third with a 339, Tipton was fourth with a 348 and Monticello was fifth with a 349.
Regina placed ninith with a 375.
Countryman shot a four-over-par 76 to match Dyersville Beckman’s Nate Offerman for the top score. Offerman defeated Countryman in a playoff for the district title.
Will Bridges fired an 80 to place fourth for West Branch while Logan Highly shot an 84 to finish in a tie for 12th.
Gage Gingerich shot an 85 and Brady Knoop an 86 for West Branch.
Regina junior Mikey Takacs shot a five-over 77 to finish one stroke back of Countryman and Offerman in third place.
