Class 4A third-ranked City High opened the season with a doubleheader sweep of fifth-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie on Monday in a top-five matchup at Mercer Park in Iowa City.

City High hammered 16 hits in a 10-5 win in the opener and Gavin Koch tossed five strong innings in a 5-1 win in the nightcap as the Little Hawks opened the season with a sweep.

Cade Obermueller picked up in the win in the opener allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out seven and walking four in 4 1/3 innings.

John Klosterman led a 16-hit outburst for City High going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and two RBI.

Alex Knudtson had a double and drove in a run while going 3-for-4 and Joey Bouska had three hits and scored a run.

Carter Seaton was 2-for-4 with a triple and drove in two runs while Gable Mitchell had a hit and drove in two runs.

Obermueller also had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run.

In the nightcap Koch allowed just one unearned run on two hits while striking out three and walking three in five innings.

Bouska had two hits and scored a run and Koch had a double and drove in two runs to lead City High.

Ben Kueter ahad a hit and drove in two runs while Knudtson doubled and scored a run.
