Aidan O’Neil continued a breakthrough sophomore season on Thursday by securing his spot at the state track and field meet next week in Des Moines.

O’Neil won the title in the 3,200 and added a runner-up finish in the 1,600 as Regina locked up three automatic state meet berths on Thursday at the Class 2A state qualifying meet in Monticello.

A state cross country medalist in the fall, O’Neil won the 3,200 in 10:27.72 and added a runner-up finish in the 1,600 in 4:45.55 to pace the Regals.

Senior Carson Jensen secured a spot at the Class 2A state meet that opens May 19 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines with a runner-up finish in the 400 in a time of 51.07.

Cash Woody led West Branch qualifying for the state meet in two events.

Woody cleared 6-3 to win the high jump and added a runner-up finish in the 110 hurdles in a time of 16.33.
