Girls Track and Field Roundup: West Branch Improves Conference Finish in Solid Day at RVC Meet

It was a day of improvement for West Branch at the River Valley Conference meet.
Led by a pair of runner-up finishes in field events the Bears improved their finishing position by three spots from a year ago racking up 44 points and finishing seventh on Thursday at the 14-team RVC meet in Monticello.
Ava Finley finished runner-up in the long jump and Alyssa Pierce was runner-up in the shot put on Thursday as West Branch surpassed the 32 points it scored at the conference meet last season.
Mid-Prairie easily outdistanced the field to win the team title with 149 points while Tipton was second with 87 and Northeast was third with 84.5.
Regina placed 12th with 23 points.
The West Branch 4×200 relay team of Ava Finley, Iva Senio, JaLynn Falco and Avery Schultes finished third in 1:52.47 and the same foursome finish fourth in the 4×100 in 53.67.
Senio was fifth in the 100, Sadie Smith was sixth in the shot put and Peyton Braddock sixth in the long jump to pace the Bears.
Regina got a trio of top-eight finishes from Natalie Franklin and Peyton Naeve posted a pair of top-five efforts.
Franklin was sixth in the 3,000, seventh in the 1,500 and eighth in the 800 in a busy day while Naeve was third in the 400 in 1:04.07 and fifth in the 400 hurdles.
