The start of the golf postseason is still a week away but the Solon Invitational on Tuesday in Cedar Rapids offered a potential glimpse at a state tournament preview.

Defending 3A runner-up Solon emerged from a four-team field that featured three of the top six finishers from last year’s state meet to win the title on Tuesday at the Cedar Rapids Country Club.

The meet featured six of the top 10 individual finishers from the 2021 3A state meeting including defending state champion Hogan Hansen of Waverly-Shell Rock and last year’s third-place finisher Brock Snyder of Gilbert.

In the loaded field it was the Spartans that stood out.

Led by individual medalist Jack McCarty Solon had four golfers finish in the top eight and shot a 305 to edge defending 3A champion Gilbert by six strokes for the team title.

Waverly-Shell Rock was third with a 331 while Knoxville was fourth with a 339.

McCarty shot a 36 on the back nine to finish with a 74 matching Gilbert’s Snyder for the lowest score.

Freshman Isaiah Zoske shot a 76, Frank Haege Jr. fired a 77 and Mac McCarty shot a 78 to lead the Spartans.

Defending state champion Hansen shot a 77^th to finish seventh for Waverly-Shell Rock.
