West High sophomore standout Erinn Varga left her Drake Relays debut with a little bit of hardware on Saturday evening.

Varga capped a solid weekend for the Trojans with a medal in the 400 hurdles placing sixth in a time of 1:05.51 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The time of 1:05.51 for Varga matcher her career best set a week earlier at the Forwald/Coleman Relays at City High.

Waukee Northwest senior Mackenzie Carney completed a sweep of the hurdle events winning the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:02.87 while Ellie Rickertsen of Northeast was runner-up in 1:04.39.

After Rickertsen the next four finishers were separated by less than one second.

Darci Wiseman of Winterset was third in 1:04.74 followed by Ali Frandsen of Ames and Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln junior Abby LaSale in 1:05.35.

Varga finished in front of Unity Christian junior Grace Schoonhoven who was seventh in 1:05.78.

Liberty High senior Ashlyn Keeney capped her four-event Drake Relays weekend with a fifth-place finish in the 1,500 in 4:46.83.

Carlisle senior Ainsley Erzen, the 800 meter champion on Friday, won the 1,500 in 4:36.27.

City High closed the weekend strong with a pair of top-three relay finishes on Saturday.

The Little Hawk shuttle hurdle team of Sierra Pruessner, Te’Nia Ansley, Martha Hamilton and Mia DePrenger finished third in 104.7.

The same foursome entered with the eighth fastest time in the state this season at 1:07.57 but ran a 1:06.75 in the prelims to reach the finals where the Little Hawks took nearly three seconds off their qualifying time.

Waukee Northwest won the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:01.86 while West Des Moines Dowling was second in 1:02.67.

City High closed the weekend with a third-place finish in the 4×400.

Iris Wedemeyer, Pruessner, DePrenger and Ani Wedemeyer were third in a time of 4:01.16.

Solon won the 4×400 in 3:56.25.
