West High won four events and added eight runner-up finishes on its way to winning the team title at the Don Newell Classic in Ottumwa on Tuesday.

Cindy Wang, Ella Woods and Erinn Varga all earned individual titles for the Trojans and West High won the shuttle hurdle relay while racking up 169.5 points to finish 44.5 points clear of runner-up Pella.

Host Ottumwa was third with 93 points followed by Newton with 78 and Knoxville with 44.5.

Wang won the 3,000 in a time of 11:33.27 and added a runner-up finish in the 1,500 to pace West High.

Varga won the 400 hurdles in 1:07.6 an was runner-up in the 400 and Ella Woods won the 100 hurdles and anchored the West High shuttle hurdle team that also featured Hebah War, Erinah Carter and Sophia Olivo to a win in 1:09.57.

Helen Penning was runner-up in the shot put, Ava Bruxvoort was second in the high jump and Sara Alaya was second in the 800.

West High also got a runner-up finish from Lily McConnell in the 400 hurdles and its sprint medley and 4×400 relay teams.
