Boys Track and Field Roundup: City High Posts Impressive Win at Ames Hi Covey Relays

Another trip to Central Iowa produced another impressive performance for the City High boys track and field team.
City High claimed its second team title at a Central Iowa meet in four days on Tuesday rolling to the team crown at the Hi Covey Relays in Ames.
After winning the West Des Moines Valley meet on Saturday City High was equally impressive on Tuesday winning 10 events including seven individual titles.
City High finished first and second in four different individual events and had runner-up finishes to go with its 10 event wins while racking up 203 points.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy was runner-up with 134 points followed by Southeast Polk with 124, Ankeny Centennial with 108 and host Ames with 67.
Truman Thompson and Matt Schaeckenbach each won a pair of individual titles to pace City High.
Thompson wown the 400 in 52.28 and claimed the 3,200 title in 9:54.09.
Schaeckenbach cleared 6-4 to win the high jump and added a title in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.24.
TaeShon McDaniels won the shot put with a toss of 53-6 and was runner-up in the discus.
Jovan Harris won the 400 hurdles in a time of 55.3 which ranks as the third fastest time in the state this spring while Schaeckenbach was runner-up in the 400 hurdles in 58.92.
Ford Washburn won 800 in a time of 1:57.79 while teammate Ammon Smith was runner-up in 1:59.31.
Austin Rindels was runner-up in the 110 hurdles and Juma Amisi was runner-up in the 400.
The City High foursome of Sam Rew, Mike Rew, Ronnie Major and Mengty Tan won the 4×100 in a time of 43.29 while Sam Rew, Mike Rew, Isaiah Svoboda and Sam Scheafer won the sprint medley in 1:38.87
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Tyler Rindels, Schaeckenbach, Ian Moore and Phillip Kaplan won in 1:02.64.
City High added runner-up finishes in both the 4×200 and 4×400.
