The best start in program history has lifted the Liberty High boys soccer team to new heights.

Liberty High earned the first No. 1 ranking in program history on Sunday when the Lightning landed atop the Class 3A rankings released by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Off to a 5-0 start, Liberty High has outscored opponents by a combined score of 35-0 this season and is one of only 11 remaining unbeaten teams in Class 3A.

Urbandale is second in the 3A rankings followed by Bettendorf, Ankeny Centennial and Ankeny.

City High (2-1) is No. 10 in the initial 3A rankings while West High (4-1) is No. 11.

Solon (6-1) is No. 10 in the Class 2A rankings while West Branch (2-0) is tenth in Class 1A.

Other top-ranked teams in the first rankings of the season are Council Bluffs Lewis Central (2A) and Mid-Prairie (1A).
