Boys Track and Field Roundup: Harris, Schaeckenbach Help City High to Team Title at Dr. Brooks Relays in West Des Moines

City High continued its unbeaten start to the 2022 season on Saturday and the most recent win for the Little Hawks came over some impressive competition.
Jovan Harris won a pair of individual titles, Matt Schaeckenbach won an individual title and added two runner-up finishes and TaeShon McDaniels posted a first-place and runner-up finish as City High claimed the team title at the Dr. Brooks Coed Valley Relays in West Des Moines.
City High rolled up 142 points to finish seven in front of defending Class 4A state runner-up West Des Moines Dowling.
Southeast Polk was third with 91 followed by West Des Moines Valley with 82.5 and Ankeny with 60.
Harris led the Little Hawks on Saturday winning the 200 in a time of 22.91 and claiming the 400 title in 49.91.
Harris was also a member of the City High 4×400 relay team that placed fourth.
Schaeckenbach had a big day for City High winning the high jump by clearing 6-3 and adding runner-up finishes in both the 110 and 400 hurdles.
Schaeckenbach joined Austin Rindels, Ian Moore and Phillip Kaplan on the City High shuttle hurdle relay team that won in a time of 1:02.35.
McDaniels won the shot put with a mark of 54-2 ½ and was runner-up in the discus with a toss of 149-6.
The City High sprint medley relay team of Sam Rew, Mike Rew, Isaiah Svoboda and Juma Amisi won in 1:35.99.
Ammon Smith was third in the 400 and eighth in the 800 and Ostyn Friday was fourth in the shot put and seventh in the discus.
Ronnie Major finished runner-up in the long jump and teammate Akili Mattox was third and City High was fifth in both the 4×100 and 4×800 relays.
