The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Aurora Roghair
Former West High state champion and current Stanford freshman Aurora Roghair earned honorable mention all-American honors while helping the Cardinal to a top-three team finish at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Division Championships in Atlanta, Georgia over the weekend.
Roghair finished 15th in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle in a time of 16:06.04 as Stanford finished third in the team standings with 399.5 points.
Roghair also competed in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
Ashley Joens
City High graduate and current Iowa State senior Ashley Joens was named to the USBWA All-American team for the second consecutive season last week.
A third-team selection a year ago, Joens was named to the USBWA second-team this year after leading the Cyclones with 20.2 points 9.5 rebounds per game.
The all-time leading scoring in Iowa State history, Joens has helped Iowa State to a 27-6 record and a spot in the NCAA Sweet 16.
Rachael Saunders
Former West High all-stater and current Creighton senior guard Rachael Saunders had five points and five rebounds to help the Bluejays to an 84-74 win over Colorado in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Friday in Iowa City.
Saunders had a steal and a block in the win over the Buffaloes and had two assists, a rebound, a block and a steal in a 64-62 win over Iowa on Sunday that sent Creighton to the NCAA Sweet 16.
