The Your Prep Sports boys basketball team recognizes some of the top players in the area for their performance on the court throughout the 2021-2022 season.
This year’s team, the sixth edition of the Your Prep Sports all-area team features all-conference and all-state selections.
The 2022 features a pair of repeat selections in West High senior Pete Moe and City High senior Jamari Newson.
Moe is the captain of the 2022 team after ranking in the top seven in Class 4A in both scoring and rebounding while leading West High to a 13-9 record.
Pete Moe (Captain)
6-9, Sr., West High
After bursting onto the scene a year ago in his first season in Iowa Moe picked up where he left off posting a standout senior season in which he earned second-team all-state honors from the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Moe ranked seventh in Class 4A in scoring (21.2) and fourth in rebounding (9.1) while shooting a career-high 61 percent from the field.
The 6-foot-9 forward also averaged 1.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 1 blocked shot per game while helping West High to a 13-9 record.
Moe was consistent this season posting 12 double-doubles and scoring 25 or more points nine times including four games of 30 or more points.
In two seasons at West High Moe racked up more than 750 point and 300 rebounds while averaging 21.5 points and 8.9 boards per game.
Ben Swails
6-2, Sr., Clear Creek Amana
In his first season in the starting lineup Swails quickly emerged as the go-to option for the Clippers putting up a breakthrough senior season in which he earned second-team Class 3A all-state honors from the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Swails led Clear Creek Amana in scoring and rebounding while helping the Clippers to a 16-8 record and a spot in the Class 3A substate final.
The 6-foot-2 Swails showed the ability to score efficiently from all three levels this season shooting 52 percent from the floor, 42 percent from the three-point line and 68 percent from the free throw line.
A unanimous first-team all-WAMAC West Division pick Swails also averaged 1.6 steals and 1.5 assists per game.
Jamari Newson
6-2, Sr., City High
A three-year varsity starter Newson closed his career with his best season yet on his way to being named to the Your Prep Sports all-area team for a second consecutive season.
Newson led City High in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals on his way to being named a second-team Mississippi Valley Conference All-division selection.
The 6-foot-2 point guard averaged a career-high 13.8 points per game this season while leading the Little Hawks with 6.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
This was the second consecutive season that Newson has led the Little Hawks in both rebounds and steals and the 3.9 assists and 2.6 steals per game were both career-highs.
Da’Shon Fisher
6-0, Jr., Liberty High
One of the biggest breakthrough stars of the season anywhere Fisher emerged as one of the best players in Class 4A and one of the most exciting players in the state with a stellar junior season.
Fisher led Liberty High in scoring with 17.4 points per game to go with 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists while being named to the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division first team.
The 6-foot guard was consistent, scoring in double figures in 19-of-21 games in which he played but also had a knack for coming up with huge performances scoring 20 or more eight times including efforts of 27, 28 and 29 points.
Fisher shot 52 percent from the field including 31 percent from three-point range and 64 percent from the free throw line.
Kinnick Pusteoska
6-5, Sr., Solon
Another three-year starter that closed with a strong senior season Pusteoska helped lead Solon to the Class 3A substate final for the second consecutive season.
The offensive stats don’t jump off the page but on a team that was built around defense Pusteoska was a pillar in the post while leading the Spartans to a 15-10 season.
Pusteoska ranked second on the team with 8.3 points per game while shooting a team-high 50 percent from the floor and posted career highs in rebounds, steals, assists and blocks.
The 6-foot-5 forward led the Spartans with 6.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game on his way to being named a unanimous first-team all WAMAC East Division selection.
Pusteoska also averaged 1 steal and .6 blocked shots per game this season and had six games with double digit rebounds.
Holden Arnaman
6-1, Soph., West Branch
After getting his feet wet at the varsity level last season Arnaman staked his claim as one of the top young point guards in the state this season as a sophomore.
Arnaman led West Branch in scoring at 15.7 points per game and ranked fifth in Class 2A with 5.4 assists per game while helping the Bears to a 12-10 record.
In an increased role this season Arnaman raised his field goal and free throw percentage from a year ago shooting 42 percent from the floor and 74 percent from the free throw line.
Arnaman also averaged 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game this season while being named to the River Valley Conference South Division squad.
Kyle Schrepfer
6-0, Sr., Clear Creek Amana
A consistent presence in the Clipper backcourt the past two seasons Schrepfer closed his career with his best season.
Schrepfer averaged career-highs in points, rebounds, assists and steals while helping the Clippers to a 16-8 record and a spot in the 3A substate final.
The 6-foot Schrepfer averaged 13.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game on his way to being a unanimous all-WAMAC West Division selection.
Schrepfer scored double figures 17 times this season and scored 20 or more points five times this season including a career-high 26 points.
