City High’s Joens, Solon’s Levin Headline Area IPSWA All-State Selections

City High junior Kelsey Joens and Solon sophomore Callie Levin are both prolific scoring guards committed to in-state, Division I programs.
Now Joens and Levin share something else in common – both are first team all-state picks.
Joens earned first-team all-state honors for the first time and Levin secured first-team honors for a second consecutive season on Tuesday when the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association released its all-state teams.
Levin and Joens were two of seven Your Prep Sports area athletes to earn all-state honors.
Liberty High junior Jasmine Barney and West High junior Meena Tate were both second-team picks in Class 5A while City High senior Eviyon Richardson was a third-team selection 5A.
Clear Creek Amana sophomore Ava Locklear earned third-team honors in Class 4A while West Branch senior Delaynie Luneckas was a second-team pick in Class 2A.
Levin earned first-team all-state honors in Class 4A after being named a first-team Class 3A selection last season as a freshman.
An Iowa commit, Levin ranked in the top five in Class 4A in scoring, steals and assists while helping Solon to a 15-8 record.
Levin ranked fourth in 4A in scoring (21), third in steals (4.3) and fourth in assists (4.2) and also averaged 3.7 rebounds per game.
A second-team 5A all-state pick a year ago and an Iowa State commit, Joens ranked third in Class 5A averaging a career-high 21.3 points per game to help City High to a 19-5 record and a spot in the 5A state tournament.
Joens ranked second on the team with 6.3 rebounds per game and led City High with 1.4 steals per game to go with 2.6 assists per contest.
Richardson earned third-team honors for City High after averaging 14.9 points and leading the Little Hawks with 8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
The Omaha recruit shot 43 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line.
Tate earned all-state honors for the first time after a strong junior season in which she led West High with 15 points, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
The junior guard shot 47 percent from the field while helping the Trojans post a 19-4 record and earn a spot in the regional title game.
In her first season at Liberty High Barney helped the Lightning to the best season in program history.
Barney led Liberty High in scoring (18.4), rebounds (6.9), assists (4.5) and steals (2.8) per game while helping the Lightning to the first winning season in program history at 12-11 and the first postseason win in history.
Locklear and Luneckas each earned all-state honors for the first time.
Luneckas was a second-team selection after ranking second in Class 2A in both rebounds and blocked shots.
The Minnesota State recruit averaged 13.7 points, 12 rebounds 4.4 blocked shots and 3.3 assists per game for the Bears.
Locklear was a third-team selection in Class 4A after leading the Clippers with 14.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots per game.
The 5-foot-11 Locklear shot 51 percent from the floor and 63 percent from the free throw line.
