Barney, Joens and Levin Earn First-team All-State Honors From IGCA

Kelsey Joens, Callie Levin and Jasmine Barney all earned first-team all-state honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association on Tuesday when the organization released its postseason basketball awards.
Joens, a junior at City High, and Barney, a junior at Liberty High, were both first-team selections in Class 5A.
Levin, a Solon sophomore, was a first-team pick in Class 4A.
The first-team honors for Barney, Levin and Joens were among seven area athletes to earn all-state honors from the IGCA on Tuesday.
West High junior Meena Tate was a second-team selection in Class 5A while City High senior Eviyon Richardson was a third-team pick in 5A.
West Branch senior Delaynie Luneckas earned second-team honors in Class 2A while Regina junior guard Grace Gaarde was a third-team selection in 2A.
An Iowa State commit, Joens ranked third in 5A in scoring averaging 21.3 points per game while helping City High to a 19-5 record and state tournament berth.
The 5-foot-10 guard also averaged 6.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Barney helped Liberty High to the best season in program history posting team highs in points (18.4), rebounds (6.9), assists (4.5) and steals (2.8) per game as the Lightning finished with their first winning season and won the first postseason game in program history.
Levin ranked fourth in 4A in scoring at 21 points per game and was also third in 4A in steals (4.3) and fourth in assists (4.2) while helping Solon to a 15-8 record.
Tate earned second-team honors in 5A after averaging 15 points, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game while Richardson was a third-team selection after scoring 14.9 points per game and leading City High with 8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
Luneckas averaged a career-high13.7 points and an impressive 3.3 assists per game but was more dominant on the defensive end ranking second in Class 2A with 12 rebound and 4.4 blocked shots per game.
Gaarde was a third-team all-state pick in Class 2A, earning all-state honors for the first time after leading Regina to a 20-5 mark and its first state tournament appearance since 2018.
The junior guard led the Regals with 11.1 points, 5.4 assists and 3.1 steals per game and also averaged 2.9 rebounds per contest.
