A second member of the defending Class 3A runner-up Solon girls track team will compete collegiately in the Big 12 Conference.
Senior standout Kaia Holtkamp announced her commitment to continue her track and field career at Iowa State on Wednesday with a post on social media.
The announcement from Holtkamp comes after Solon teammate Emma Bock committed to Texas Tech in November.
“I am excited to announce my commitment to Iowa State University to continue my academic and track career,” Holtkamp wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to all of my teammates and coaches for inspiring me to reach all of my aspirations. I feel so blessed to have been a part of the Solon Girls track program. More than anything I want to say thank you to my family for always believing in me and for their constant support along this journey. I wouldn’t be where I am today with them. Thank you to coach Lange and Coach Sudbury for this opportunity to be a Cyclone.”
Last spring Holtkamp was a big part of the Solon’s team runner-up finish at the 2021 Class 3A state meet earning four medals including three top-two finishes.
Holtkamp finished sixth in the 800 in a time of 2:17.23 and was a part of three relay teams that finished in the top two.
She helped Solon to state titles in both the 4×800 and distance medley and was a member of the Spartans 4×400 relay team that was runner-up.
The Spartan 4×800 relay team won the state title in 9:21.84 while the distance medley team was victorious in 4:05.77.
Holtkamp was a multi-event state qualifier as a freshman in 2019 placing 14th in the 400.
