The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Cooper Kabela
West Branch graduate Cooper Kabela became the all-time leading scorer at Cornell College with a season-high 31 points in a loss to Grinnell College last Thursday.
The senior forward eclipsed the previous career scoring mark of 1,561 set by Griffin LaDew from 2005-2009 and now has 1,580 career points.
Kabela leads the Rams in scoring at 16.2 points per game on the season to go with 4.7 rebounds per game helping Cornell to a 17-8 record entering the postseason.
Ashley Joens
City High graduate Ashley Joens became broke the career scoring record at Iowa State in a loss to Texas last Wednesday.
Joens passed Bridge Carleton (2,142 points) and Angie Welle (2,149) with 18 points against the Longhorns to become the all-time leading scorer in program history.
The 6-foot-1 Joens scored 28 points in a win over Oklahoma on Saturday to push her career scoring total to 2,184.
On the season Joens leads the Cyclones with 20.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
Ryan Schott
Regina graduate and current Coe College senior Ryan Schott closed the regular season with a win picking up a pin for the Kohawks on senior night.
Schott posted a first-period pin of Kurtis Modlin as Coe logged a 40-3 win over Dubuque.
Coe closed the regular season 11-5 and will return to action this weekend at the NCAA Division III Regional qualifier.
