A pair of area two-time state champion wrestlers were named Mississippi Valley Conference athletes of the year on Monday when the conference released its postseason wrestling awards.

West High senior Hunter Garvin and City High junior Ben Kueter were both named divisional athlete of the year on Monday after claiming conference titles at the MVC Conference meet last month.

A two-time state champion the 152-pound Garvin was named Valley Division athlete of the year and enters the state tournament with a 33-0 record.

A two-time unbeaten defending state champion, Kueter was named Mississippi Division athlete of the year after posting a 33-0 record this season at 220 pounds.

Kueter was one of four City High wrestlers to earn first-team honors in the Mississippi Division.

Sophomores Cale Seaton (38-2) and Kael Kurtz (35-4) were first-team picks at 120 and 126 pounds while sophomore Jake Mitchell (30-12) was a first-team honoree at 138 pounds.

Junior Ryan Ott was a second-team selection at 145 pounds for City High and junior Nick Marker earned honorable mention honors at 182 pounds.

Led by Garvin, West High had five wrestlers named to the Valley Division first team.

Seniors Grant O’Dell and Brett Pelfrey were first-team selections at 138 and 285 pounds and sophomore Braden Doyle were first-team picks at 113 and 132 pounds.

Freshman Sterling Warren and Justin Avila were second-team honorees at 120 and 170 pounds for the Trojans.

Drake Davis and Kael Scranton each earned honorable mention honors for West High.

Liberty High senior 160-pound Elijah Terwilleger earned first-team honors in the Mississippi Division while sophomore 182-pound sophomore Vinny Lima was a second-team pick.

Senior 195-pounder Ethan Armstrong earned honorable mention honors for Liberty High.
