Girls Basketball Roundup: Sixth-ranked Regina Rolls Past Van Buren in Regional Opener

Class 2A sixth-ranked Regina was sharp in its postseason opener on Tuesday cruising past Van Buren 64-16 in a 2A, Region 6 quarterfinal in Iowa City.
Regina broke open a six-point game with a 19-point second quarter and held Van Buren to four second-half points while improving to 18-4 on the season and advancing to the Region 6 semifinals.
The Regals will host West Branch (15-7) in the third matchup of the season between the two River Valley Conference South Division rivals on Friday at 7 p.m.
Van Buren closed the season 8-15.
Lily Simpson had a double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds and also had three assists, two steals and two blocked shots to lead the way.
Grace Gaarde added 13 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals and Alli Clrak had 11 points and six rebounds for Regina.
Morgan Miller had nine points and Hope Simpson had six points and three steals for Regina.
