The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Nick O’Connor
Clear Creek Amana graduate and current Indian Hills Community College sophomore Nick O’Connor was named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Athlete of the week last week.
O’Connor set personal bests in the mile with a time of 4:22.47 and the 800 with a time of 1:58.82 at the Mark Schuck Open in Mankato, Minnesota on January 29.
The Iowa recruit also ran a 4:18 split to help the Warriors’ distance medley relay squad to a school record time of 10:22.01.
Tatum Koenig
West Branch graduate and current Bradley senior guard Tatum Koenig averaged 21 points and 6.5 assists in a pair of games last week.
Tatum had 19 points and five assists in an 83-63 loss to Indiana State and had a team-high 23 points and eight assists in a 77-67 win over Evansville on Sunday.
On the season Koenig is averaging 11.4 points and a team-high 3.6 assists per game for the Braves.
Lauren Zacharias
West High graduate and current Wayne State College junior guard Lauren Zacharias had 15 points and eight rebounds in a 74-72 win over Upper Iowa on Friday.
Zacharias was 5-of-6 from the field including 3-of-4 from three-point range and had three assists and two steals in the win.
On the season Zacharias is averaging 12.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for the Wildcats.
