Another key piece of the turnaround season for City High has found a future football home.
City High senior offensive lineman Ostyn Friday announced his commitment to Southern Illinois on Tuesday with a post on social media.
“First, I would like to thank my parents. None of this would have been possible without them,” Friday wrote on Twitter. “Next, I’d like to thank my head coach Mitch Moore and my offensive line coach Ryan McKim for everything they have taught me and helped me along the recruiting process. With that being said, I will be continuing my academic and athletic careers at South Illinois University.”
A three-year starter on the offensive line for the Little Hawks, Friday was a critical piece in City High posting a 10-2 record and earning a spot in the Class 5A state semifinals last fall.
Starting at center as a senior Friday helped the City High offense average better than 190 rushing yards, 389 total yards and 42.5 points per game.
The 6-foot-2, 258-pound Friday earned second-team all-Mississippi Valley Conference honors as a senior.
Southern Illinois is a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference and is coming off an 8-5 season in which it advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs.
