John Klosterman spent the fall establishing himself as one of the top linebackers in the state.
Now the City High senior all-state linebacker has cemented himself as a Division I recruit.
Klosterman announced his commitment to Iowa State as a preferred walk on Sunday with a post on social media.
“With all glory to go I’m blessed to announce I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at Iowa State University,” Klosterman wrote Twitter. “I would not be in this position without the unbelievable support from my amazing family, my parents for always supporting me along the way making my athletic career possible. Thanks to all my teammates past and present for always pushing me to be the best version of myself on and off the field. Many thanks to Coach Moore, Coach Harris, Coach McGhghy and the entire City High coaching staff for helping me develop this past year into the player and person I am today. I would also like to thank JC Moreau and Connor Greene for working with me this past winter. Thank you Coach Veidt for this unbelieve opportunity.”
Klosterman was one of the leaders on a City High team that completed one of the best turnarounds in recent state memory last season.
City High snapped a string of four consecutive two-win seasons by going 10-2 and advancing to the Class 5A semifinals.
Klosterman had 59.5 total tackles in 11 games this season ranking third on the team and finished with 37 solo stops.
The 6-foot, 205-pound Klosterman was second on the team with 16 tackles for loss and six ranks ranking in the top-15 in Class 5A in both categories.
Klosterman was named a third-team all-state selection at linebacker by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Also a standout baseball player Klosterman hit .319 with two home runs and 28 RBI last season for City High and went 4-2 with a 1.64 ERA striking out 52 in 38.1 innings.
