Solon senior standout Makinley Levin still has one more season to add to her impressive prep track and field resume.
On Thursday Levin made plans for her track and field future.
A five-time state medalist for the Spartans Levin announced her commitment to continue her track and field career at Northern Iowa on Thursday with a post on social media.
“It has always been my dream to compete in track and field at the next level. When visiting UNI it felt like home and I’m so excited to continue my academic and track and field career in purple and gold,” Levin wrote on Twitter. “First I want to thank my family and teammates for always supporting and inspiring me. Thank you to Coach Sands, Coach Wilkinson, Iowa Speed Track and Field Club and to all of my other coaches who have impacted my athletic experience. Lastly, a huge thanks to Coach Paulsen and Coach Coover for giving me this opportunity. I am so grateful.”
A two-time, four-event state qualifier Levin earned a pair of medals in her state meet debut as a freshman and collected three more state medals last season while helping Solon to a Class 3A runner-up team finish.
As a freshman at the 2019 state meet Levin helped the Solon sprint medley and distance medley relay teams to third place finishes.
Last spring Levin earned the first state title of her career helping the Spartans’ distance medley relay team win the 3A crown.
Levin also ran on the Spartans’ runner-up 4×400 relay team and was a part of Solon’s 4×200 relay team that finished seventh.
She is also a two-time state qualifier in the long jump posting back-to-back top-13 finishes in the event.
