Bill McTaggart earned career coaching victory number 500 on Friday as Class 5A fourth-ranked City High opened the season with a 70-52 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup Cedar Rapids.
Andie Westlake led four City High players in double figures with a game-high 23 points as the Little Hawks moved to 1-0.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson dropped to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in MVC play.
Bella Cooley and Kelsey Joens each had 12 points and Eviyon Richardson added 11 for the Little Hawks.
Freshman Emmy McComas had five points and Georgia Kimm added four for City High.
Aubrey Luvan had a team-high 15 points and Emma Slings had 10 for Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
