The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Colby Greene
A former West High standout, Greene helped Southeast Missouri claim the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title and a NCAA Tournament berth with a five-set win over Morehead State last week.
Greene had 11 kills, three digs and two blocks in the title game on her way to being named to the Ohio Valley Conference all-tournament team.
A 6-foot-2 junior rightside hitter, Greene had 37 kills on .354 hitting in three tournament wins.
The Redhawks will face seventh-ranked Kentucky in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Nate Wieland
City High graduate and current Grandview junior linebacker Nate Wiedland had a team-high six tackles in a 31-16 win over Concordia (Michigan) in the NAIA quarterfinals on Saturday.
A first-team all-conference linebacker in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, Wieland had a team-best five solo tackles among his six stops on Saturday.
Grandview (13-0) will face top-ranked Lindsey Wilson (12-0) in the NAIA semifinals on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Jared Brinkman
Former Regina all-stater Jared Brinkman and current Northern Iowa senior defensive tackle Jared Brinkman was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in his career last week.
Brinkman earned the conference’s defensive player of the year honors in 2019 and again last week after making 67 tackles including 13 for loss and five sacks from his defensive line spot.
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound Brinkman has also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble this season.
