The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Owen Smith
West High graduate Owen Smith helped the Cornell College men’s soccer team to one of the most successful seasons in program history this season that ended one win away from a NCAA tournament berth.
A freshman defender for the Rams, Smith started 18 matches and ranked third on the team in minutes helping Cornell to a school-record 15 wins and its first appearance in the conference title match since 1982.
Liberty High graduate Mardoche Ntonku, City High grads Eddie Garces and Cian McNamara and Solon graduate Drew Bruck are all members of the Cornell team that finished the season 15-4.
Colby Greene
West High graduate Colby Greene had seven kills to help Southeast Missouri secure a share of the Ohio Valley Conference title with a sweep of Morehead State on Saturday.
A junior rightside hitter for the RedHawks, Greene ranks third on the team with 282 kills on .219 hitting and is second on team with 63 blocks while helping Southeast Missouri to a 23-7 record.
Tatum Koenig
West Branch graduate Tatum Koenig had seven points and five rebounds to help Bradley to an 84-65 win over Wright State on Tuesday.
A starter since her freshman season the 5-foot-7 senior guard needs 42 assists and nine 3-poitners to enter the top-10 all-time in program history in both categories.
