Regina Sophomore O’Neil Secures Medal in First Trip to State Meet

The first season of high school cross country for Regina sophomore Aidan O’Neil ended with some hardware.
O’Neil secured a state medal in his first ever trip to the state cross country meet on Saturday placing 14th in the Class 1A meet at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
The 14th place individual effort from O’Neil helped Regina to a top-10 team finish in its first state meet appearance since 2016.
ACGC won the team title with 75 points followed by Maquoketa Valley with 112 points and Earlham with 134.
Regina was eighth with 202, three points behind seventh-place Central Decatur and 32 clear of Woodbine.
A first-year runner for the Regals, O’Neil became the first individual medalist for Regina since Nate Green finished eighth in Class 2A in 2016.
O’Neil was 14th in a time of 17:01.61 finishing a little more than a second behind English Valley senior Bryson Grove who was 13th in 17:00.35.
Junior Joe Maley finished 57th overall in his second appearance at the state meet in a time of 18:01.65 while senior Adam Boblenz finished 82nd overall in 18:22.24.
Earlham senior Jayden Dickson won the individual title in 16:06.46 while teammate Dominic Braet was runner-up in 16:18.5.
