A rematch, a road trip, a meeting with a familiar foe and a couple of testers against relative new opponents.

That is the recipe for an exciting Friday night in the Your Prep Sports area in the first full week of prep playoff football next Friday.

Five area teams learned their playoff opponents for next Friday night today when the Iowa High School Athletic Association released the pairings for the next two rounds of the playoffs on Saturday morning.

The final 16 teams in each class were grouped into pods for the next two weeks with matchups set for the round of 16 next week and quarterfinals the following week.

In Class 5A fifth-ranked City High (8-1) hosts Urbandale (7-2) in a Mississippi Valley Conference and Central Iowa Metro League cross over contest at Bates Field.

The Urbandale and City High winner would face the winner of top-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy (9-0) and Dubuque Senior (5-4) in the quarterfinals.

Clear Creek Amana (6-3) secured the runner-up spot in Class 4A, District 4 with a road win at Newton on Friday and makes the 142-mile trip to Winterset (7-2) for its playoff opener.

The winner of Winterset and Clear Creek Amana would get Decorah (6-3) or top-ranked North Scott (9-0) in the quarterfinals.

Unbeaten Solon (9-0) gets an opening-round rematch hosting Davenport Assumption (6-3) at Spartan Stadium on Friday in Class 3A.

The Spartans won at Assumption 38-10 back on September 16.

With a win Solon would face the winner of Grinnell (6-3) at West Delaware (8-1).

West Branch and Regina each earned opening-round wins in Class 1A on Friday night and saw their path to the UNI-Dome revealed on Saturday.

Regina (9-0) will host MFL Mar-Mac (7-2) on Friday while West Branch (7-2) will travel to sixth-ranked Dyersville Beckman (9-0).

Regina and West Branch are both in Class 1A, Pod 4 and would face each other with wins.
