What a day for the West High swimming team.

West High won eight of 12 events and added four runner-up finishes while cruising to the team title at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet on Saturday at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School.

The Trojans rolled up 485 points en route to the team title outdistancing host Cedar Rapids Kennedy by 151 points while Cedar Falls was third with 325 followed by Linn-Mar with 323.

City High was seventh with 116 points.

West High senior Scarlet Martin was named MVC Valley Division athlete of the year after earning a trio of first-place finishes and a runner-up finish on Saturday.

Martin anchored the winning West High 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams, set a pool record in the 50 freestyle in 24.1 and added a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke in a time of 56.56.

West High coach Byron Butler was named Valley Division coach of the year after directing the Trojans to the team title.

Sam Klein won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 461.4 while teammate Aimee Varga was ninth.

The Trojans won all three relays on Saturday with Carlee Wilkins, Makala Hajek, Martin and Ella Hochstetler winning the 200 medley relay in 1:50.87.

Hochstetler, Olivia Taeger, Jade Roghair and Martin won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.13 and the foursome of Kolby Reese, Hajek, Taeger and Roghair won the 400 freestyle relay in  3:39.52.

Roghair won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.15 and Reese was runner-up in 1:59.41 while Lauren Trent finished third in 2:00.31.

Taeger won the 200 IM in a time of 2:12.58 and Hajek was second in 2:14.24.

Roghair won the 500 freestyle in 5:10 while Reese was third in 5:15.02 and Trent was fifth in 5:21.21.

Hochstetler added a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:00.53.

City High freshman Grace Hoeper had a pair of individual runner-up finishes to lead the Little Hawks placing second in the 50 freestyle in 24.57 and the 100 freestyle in 53.15.

Hoeper helped City High to a sixth-place performance in the 200 freestyle relay and an eighth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
