Regina Runs Winning Streak to 19 in a Row With Win Over Durant in Regular Season Finale

Regina will open postseason play next Friday in search of a second consecutive state title.
The Regals made sure that they head into the postseason on a high note.
Class 1A third-ranked Regina capped an unbeaten regular season and stretched its winning streak to 19 straight with a 34-16 win over Durant on Friday in a District 5 matchup at Regal Field in Iowa City.
Regina scored the first 20 points on Friday while improving to 8-0 on the season and 5-0 in district play while Durant dropped to 2-6 and 2-3 in district play.
Junior quarterback Jack Tierney passed for 158 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 100 yards and a score as Regina rolled up 414 yards of total offense.
The Class A champion a year ago, Regina will host a 1A opening round playoff game next Friday and will learn its opponent on Saturday when the Iowa High School Athletic Association releases the postseason pairings.
Junior tailback Levi Daniel ran for 156 yards and a touchdown as Regina rushed for 256 yards as a team.
It was Tierney and the Regina passing game that gave the Regals an early lead.
Tierney hit Sam Aitchison with a 33-yard touchdown pass to put the Regals up 7-0 in the opening quarter.
Tierney added a 6-yard scoring run and Andrew Deninger hit a 21 yard field goal as Regina took a 17-0 half time lead.
Another 21 yard field goal by Deninger gave Regina a 20-0 lead in the third quarter before Durant junior standout Nolan DeLong accounted for a pair of second-half touchdowns.
DeLong tossed a 76-yard touchdown pass on a halfback pass and added a 1-yard touchdown run as the Wildcats got as close as 27-16 in the second half.
Daniel put the finishing touches on the win with an 8-yard touchdown run.
Aitchison led Regina with four receptions for 60 yards while Carson Jensen caught three passes for 44 yards and Jackson Naeve had two receptions for 49 yards.
Jack Clark caught a 5-yard touchdown pass for the Regals.
Steven Liu had an interception for Regina and Aidan Udell had a team-high 10 tackles including a pair of sacks.
Chris Waikel had a sack and Aitchison had 6.5 tackles.
