Girls Cross Country Roundup: Keeney Wins Third MVC Super Meet Individual Title

Ashlyn Keeney will conclude her incredible prep career unbeaten at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet title.
The Liberty High senior standout made sure of that on Thursday.
Keeney completed a career sweep of the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet on Thursday winning her third individual title in as many tries at the 13-team event at Irv Warren Golf Course in Waterloo.
The individual title from Keeney helped Class 4A No. 16 Liberty High to a seventh-place team finish in a field that featured nine ranked teams.
Keeney won individual Super Meet titles as a freshman in 2018 and sophomore in 2019.
The Super Meet was not held that season due the Covid-19 pandemic but Keeney returned to her winning ways at the conference meet on Thursday pulling away from the Dubuque Hempstead duo of Julia Gehl and Keelee Leitzen to claim her third Super Meet crown in a course record time.
Keeney won in a time of 18:17.3, which was more than eight seconds faster than Gehl who was runner-up in 18:25.8.
Liberty High had a pair of top-10 finishers as sophomore Cori Mac was 10th in a time of 19:11.5 as the Lightning finished with 160 points.
Class 4A top-ranked Dubuque Hempstead had three of the top five finishers and won the team title with 49 points.
No. 13 Cedar Rapids Prairie was runner-up with 79 followed by No. 17 Linn-Mar with 107, seventh-ranked Dubuque Senior with 127 and No. 14 City High with 133.
No. 12 West High was sixth with 147 points followed by Liberty High in seventh.
City High put three runners in the top 30 led by junior Iris Wedemeyer who was eighth in a time of 19:07.3.
Freshman Ani Wedemeyer was 16th in 19:26.9 and senior Rowan Boulter was 28th in 20:02.1.
West High had four runners in the top 35 led by sophomores Cindy Wang and Gabby Moniza who finished 17th and 18 respectively.
Wang finished in 19:27.5 while Moniza was right behind her in a time of 19:33.2.
Annie Schwartz was 33rd for West High in 20:17.9 and Sara Alaya was 35th in a time of 20:20.1.
