Girls Cross Country Roundup: Solon Finishes Fourth at Loaded Steve Johnson Invitational

The cross country postseason is looming just a few weeks away with state qualifying meets schedule for Class 3A and 4A teams on October 14.
Before attempting to secure a spot at the state meet late this month top-ranked Solon got an opportunity on Saturday to see how it stacked up with some of the best teams in the state.
Once again the Spartans were up to the task.
Class 3A top-ranked Solon placed fourth in an impressive 23-team field loaded with ranked teams at the Steve Johnson Invitational in Waverly.
Solon finished with 189 points trailing only Class 4A second-ranked Pleasant Valley, third-ranked Dubuque Hempstead and sixth-ranked Johnston in the team standings.
Pleasant Valley won with 76 points, Dubuque Hempstead was runner-up with 87 and Johnston was third with 140.
Class 2A top-ranked Mid-Prairie was fifth with 209 points followed by 2A second-ranked Denver with 226, 4A No. 16 North Scott with 247 and 4A No. 18 Liberty High with 262.
Solon didn’t have a runner in the top 15 but had four runners among the top 42 finishers while placing fourth.
Emma Bock was 19th in 19:26.52 while Kayla Young was 29th in 19:33.62 and Gracie Federspiel was 38th in 19:51.24.
Sophomore Anna Quillin was 42nd in 19:59.44 for the Spartans.
Liberty High had a pair of top-15 finishers led by senior standout Ashlyn Keeney who placed third overall in a time of 18:00.28.
Sophomore Cori Mac was 15th for the Lightning in 19:16.61.
Mid-Prairie sophomore Danielle Hostetler won the individual title in 17:50.58 while Pleasant Valley freshman Grace Boleyn was runner-up in 17:55.19.
