Boys Cross Country Roundup: McKane Impresses While Winning Star-studded Steve Johnson Invitational

Alex McKane continued an impressive senior season on Saturday with perhaps his best performance yet.
McKane pulled away from a star-studded field to win the individual title at the Steve Johnson Invitational at Wartburg College in Waverly.
The individual title from McKane helped Class 4A No. 12 West High to an 11th place team finish at the 25-team meet that featured three of top five ranked teams in 4A.
Top-ranked Sioux City North won the team title with 55 points while third-ranked Dubuque Hempstead was runner-up with 80 points followed by Onalaska, Wisconsin.
Fifth-ranked Johnston was fourth with 130 and eighth-ranked Cedar Falls rounded out the top five with 155 points.
No. 13 Liberty High was 10th with 259 followed by West High with 288 while Class 3A seventh-ranked Solon was 13th with 413.
McKane entered ranked second in the Class 4A individual rankings and won the title in a time of 15:22.84, more than six seconds faster than runner-up Gabe Nash of Sioux City North.
Top-ranked Derek Leicht of Dubuque Hempstead was fourth in 15:34.42.
Seth Cheney was 42nd in a time of 16:39.4 and Caden Noeller was 47 in 16:43.68 for West High.
Christian Montover led Liberty High with a 22nd place finish in a time of 16:21.6 while Aidan Decker finished 39th in 16:37.84.
Solon was led by sophomore Brick Kabela who placed 17th in a time of 16:15.87 and senior Gabe Hinman who finished 46th in 16:42.11.
