Class 5A No. 15 City High went 2-3 while placing third at the Dubuque Invitational on Saturday.

City High defeated Davenport North and Dubuque Hempstead and fell to Class 5A No. 13 Bettendorf, Dubuque Hempstead and Class 4A No. 2 North Scott.

The Little Hawks defeated Davenport North (21-14, 21-12) and fell to Bettendorf (21-15, 13-21, 15-9) and Dubuque Hempstead (21-17, 18-21, 15-13) in pool play.

City High swept Hempstead 23-21, 21-15 in gold bracket play before falling to Class 4A second-ranked North Scott 21-13, 21-12 in the gold bracket semifinals.

Claire Ernst led City High with 36 kills and 27 digs while Emmy McComas had 32 kills, 36 digs and four ace serves.

Makayla Ribble had 11 kills, 80 assists and 27 digs and Morgan Turner had 26 digs.

City High is now 13-9 on the season.
