The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Spencer Wegmann
Solon graduate and current Upper Iowa sophomore linebacker Spencer Wegmann had six tackles for the Peacocks in a 24-6 loss to Concordia on Saturday.
The 6-1, 210-pound Wegmann had five solo tackles including a tackle for loss on Saturday and has made eight tackles and broken up two passes in two gamest his season.
Rachael Nelson
Solon graduate and current Kirkwood Community College sophomore setter Rachael Nelson had a strong weekend as the Eagles went 1-3 over the weekend at their own invitational.
Nelson had 138 assists in four matches over the weekend as eighth-ranked Kirkwood defeated No. 14 Lincoln Land and fell to third-ranked Sauk Valley, fifth-ranked Johnston County and No. 10 McHenry County.
On the season Nelson had 578 assists, 30 kills and 141 digs helping Kirkwood to a 12-5 record.
Gavin Hierseman
Former West Branch all-state quarterback Gavin Hierseman scored a pair of touchdowns on Saturday to help Central College to a 69-13 win over Kalamazoo.
A freshman quarterback for Central, Hierseman completed his only pass for a 53-yard touchdown and rushed for 17 yards and a score.
