Girls Cross Country Roundup: Solon Posts Impressive Win at Loaded Ballard Invitational

Last Tuesday Solon jumped to second in the Class 3A girls cross country rankings published by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.
On Monday the Spartans showed they are definitely worthy of their ranking.
Solon put four runners in the top 15 and pulled away from a loaded field to win the team title at the 41st Ballard Invitational held at the Huxley Country Club.
Junior Kayla Young finished seventh and sophomore Gracie Federspiel was eighth to lead Solon as the Spartans won the team title with 69 points.
Solon finished 22 points clear of third-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes at the 22-team meet that featured five teams ranked in the top six in Class 3A.
Class 4A No. 17 Indianola was third with 104 points followed by 3A ninth-ranked Ballard with 119, fourth-ranked North Polk with 178 and fifth-ranked Carlisle with 179.
No. 6 Pella was seventh with 219 and ranked Class 2A teams Des Moines Christian and Roland-Story were eighth and ninth respectively.
Young finished seventh in 20:42.9 to pace the Spartans while Federspiel wasn’t far behind placing eighth in 20:57.3.
Sophomore Anna Quillin was 14th in 21:25 and freshman Lydia Hogan finished 15th in 21:31.
Senior Kaia Holtkamp finished 25 for Solon in a time of 22:05.1.
