City High opened the season with impressive back-to-back wins and people are taking notice of the Little Hawk’s strong start.

City High is sixth in the first Class 5A Associated Press football poll of the season that was released on Tuesday.

The Little Hawks landed just outside of a 5A top five that features top-ranked Southeast Polk, Cedar Rapids Kennedy; West Des Moines Dowling; Urbandale and Cedar Rapids Prairie.

West High (1-1) was among those receiving votes in the 5A poll.

Solon (2-0) was fifth in the initial 3A poll while Regina (2-0) is third in the Class 1A poll.

West Branch was receiving votes in the 1A poll.

Other top-ranked teams were Indianola (4A), Harlan (3A), OABCIG (2A), Van Meter (1A), West Hancock (A) and CAM (8-player).
