Second-half Rally Helps Solon Extend Winning Streak to 19 Over Mount Vernon

It took a second-half rally but the streak is still intact for Solon against Highway 1 rival Mount Vernon.
Solon scored 21 unanswered points to end the game rallying past Mount Vernon 41-27 at First Street Field in Mount Vernon on Friday for its 19th consecutive win over the Mustangs.
Sean Stahle rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns, including a pair of second-half touchdown runs, as Solon (2-0) rallied from a 21-14 halftime deficit.
The win was the 19th straight for Solon in the series and the fifth consecutive double-digit victory over Mount Vernon.
This one didn’t feel all that comfortable.
A year after Solon jumped to a 21-7 halftime lead on its way to a 42-14 win over Mount Vernon the Mustangs returned the favor.
Senior tailback Trenton Pitlik scored three first-half touchdowns on 53 and 1-yard runs and a 49 pass from Owen Brase as Mount Vernon (1-1) took a 21-14 halftime lead.
Solon pulled to within 21-20 on a 20-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Blake Timmons early in the third quarter.
Pitlik answered two plays later with a 70-yard touchdown run that pushed the Mount Vernon lead back to 27-20.
It was all Spartans the rest of the way.
Timmons scored on a five-yard run on fourth down to trim the deficit to 27-26 and Stahle gave Solon its first lead of the game at 34-27 on a one-yard touchdown run with 1:45 left set up by a Timmons interception.
Stahle put the finishing touches on the Spartan win with a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Timmons rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns and completed 9-of-19 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown, connecting with senior Jake Quillin on a 73-yard strike to start the Solon scoring.
Solon finished with 454 total yards including 275 on the ground while scoring more than 40 points against Mount Vernon for the second year in a row.
Quillin finished with three receptions for 92 yards to lead Solon while Stahle added three receptions for 65 yards.
Pitlik was sensational for the Mustangs rushing for 145 yards and three touchdowns and catching four passes for 99 yards and a score.
Brase went 12-of-24 for 147 yards and a touchdown but was picked off four times.
Timmons, Logan Sieverding, Parker Pentico and Brett White all had interceptions for Solon.
