Cross Country Roundup: Solon Second to Top-ranked Mid-Prairie at Anamosa Invitational

Solon put five runners in the top 10 and finished runner-up at the season-opening Anamosa Invitational on a warm and muggy Saturday morning at Anamosa Middle School.
Junior Kayla Young was third overall to lead a group of seven Spartans that all finished in the top 12 as the Spartans finished runner-up to Class 2A top-ranked and defending state champion Mid-Prairie in the team standings.
Mid-Prairie had five runners in the top eight led by individual champion Danielle Hostetler and won the team title with 22 points.
Class 3A fifth-ranked Solon was second with 33 points followed by Muscatine with 89, Washington with 103 and Cedar Rapids Xavier with 165.
Young finished third in 21:10 to pace Solon while sophomore Gracie Federspiel was fourth in 21:17 and freshman Lydia Hogan was seventh in 21:39.
Seniors Emma Bock and Kaia Holtkamp were ninth and 10th respectively in times of 22:07 and 22:10.
Anna Quillin was 11th for Solon and junior Mary Fiala was 12th.
